LeftEye MusicFest

On Saturday, September 28 I had the opportunity to work as a makeup artist at the LeftEye MusicFest.  This year’s event marked the 2nd annual benefit concert in honor of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of the popular 90’s pop/r&b trio, TLC.  The concert aimed to raise money for the Lisa Lopes Foundation  and was a  “family oriented event that encourages upcoming female artists, positive community involvement and healthy lifestyles.”  For more information check out this link —> LeftEye MusicFest

So what did I think of the event?!  Well I definately thought it was a great opportunity for backstage experience at a music event!  We had a lot of performers to paint and at times, they did not leave us with a lot of time to get them all done!  The energy was face paced as the performers came in and out for makeup and touch ups.  Fortunately, there were a number of makeup artist there and we all worked cohesively to get each performer ready for her (or his!) performance.   I’m glad I remembered to always pack food and water because I, without a doubt, worked up an appetite!   Next time, I will make time to actually eat BEFORE I am scheduled to arrive at my next event…LOL.

What was the best part of being a part of this event??  To be honest, it was meeting and networking with other makeup artists!! I met some really cool people and look forward to working at other events with them in the near future 🙂

Check out my photos before you go and don’t forget to post a comment below!!!

Sigma Beauty Makeup Brushes

Sigma Beauty is an internet based beauty company that is known for its quality, inexpensive makeup brushes. They carry a variety of synthetic and animal hair brushes for application of foundation, concealers, powders, and eyeshadows. Being the YouTube fanatic that I am, I have come across so many artists that pride themselves and their work on the use of Sigma brushes. One perk that I immediately liked about Sigma is that the company offers a lifetime warranty on all of their brushes! In other words, if any of your brushes break or shed (and you didn’t cause the damage, of course) then you simply call their Customer Service and they will send you a new brush free of charge. You heard it right! F-R-E-E! I also noticed that Sigma carries every single brush that you could think of that you would ever need. I’m definitely a fan of one- stop-shop shopping! The only downfall is that they are an Internet based company so my hesitation has been the fact that I couldn’t check them out for myself before I bought them! I feel it’s a hassle to order something, wait 7-10 business days for shipping, then have to turn around and re-box and send back if you are not satisfied!

Let me tell you all a secret that not many people know, okay…! There IS a Sigma Beauty cosmetic store in the U.S!!! It’s located at the Mall of America.

My friend, and fellow makeup artist, –>bellanoel<—, shared that tidbit of information with me not too long ago, and being the flight attendant that I am, when I got the Minneapolis layover I was more than ecstatic! I was overly overjoyed, beyond elated, through the roof-over the mountain top-to the moon excited! We lodge 5 minutes walking distance from the mall and I probably would have skipped like a 5-year old heading into Disney World if it wouldn’t have looked utterly ridiculous.

Review of the store…
Every brush and brush set is beautifully and conveniently set out on display on high top counters around the store. There are three stations, or beauty bars, set up along a counter on each side wall for makeup application. They allow you to use the brushes with cosmetic items they offer in the store but their products are limited to eyeshadows and eyeliners. Nevertheless, you have a full sized mirror and all the makeup supplies you need to apply and take off whatever you like. There are also iPads docked near each workstation that are set to YouTube and they feature an endless array of beauty vloggers that use Sigma cosmetics. If you aren’t sure how to use a certain brush the ladies in there were certainly very knowledgeable and helpful and let me add…patient! The beauty consultant, Stephanie, shared that the store holds an event on e a month that features a celebrity makeup artist who visits the store as a special guest. Not only that, Sigma also offers Beauty Parties where if you hosts a party in the store for friends the hostess receives $5 off for each guest that attends and 10% commission on all sales generated by the beauty party. Each attendee receives 10% off their in-store purchase, complimentary desserts and refreshments, and sample products! How great of a deal is that??! I loved the store almost as much as I love visiting Sephora! If you are wondering why you have never heard of this little piece of Beauty Heaven, it’s because this store is their model store and it recently opened back in December 2012. Stephanie did share that Sigma will be expanding their stores in the near future, so you all take a moment to pray that one reaches your area soon!!! I’m praying hard for my city of Atlanta!

I must admit my only regret about visiting the store was that I neglected to take pictures to post for you all 😥 I did want to show you the products that I bought though. The description (as written on their website) is listed underneath each pic.

Happy Birthday to me!!

I celebrated my twenty-ninth birthday this past Friday, July 5! I cannot believe that I am in the last year of my twenties! Oh there is so much to do and so little time before I reach the Big 3-0!! This year I am feeling rather ambitious. Trying Getting my makeup artistry business up and running is the main focus during my 29th year of life. I am reserving 30 for leisure traveling, marriage (I’m speaking it into existence), and wardrobe repair (yes, my wardrobe needs a serious and complete OVERHAUL, lol!). This year, I am all about Business!

So, to start The Final Year of My Twenties off in the right direction I took birthday money from my parents and invested it right into my makeup kit. Followers, meet my brand new Urban Decay Naked Palette, Urban Decay (UD) twinkle back at my followers!

Although this isn’t a new eyeshadow palette by any means, it is one of those items that is a staple to just about every makeup artist, enthusiast, or beauty guru. Whether you are an amateur or professional at eyeshadow application you can achieve a variety of natural to intense looks using this palette alone. I would suggest that even if you are an occasional or light makeup user, to invest in this palette because it will allow you to explore many variations of natural looks. Seriously, unless you like color, these shades would be about all you need! Pair this up with a brown or black eyeliner and mascara and you will be glamorously enhanced in no time! This palette comes with a full sized UD eye shadow brush and primer potion. However, I would recommend investing in a few different types of eye shadow brushes if you would like to apply a combination of the colors that this palette offers. Remember to always prime your eyelids first because 1) it will assists with a smoother application and helps the shadows stay on your lids all day, 2) it will prevent the shadow from smudging into places you didn’t intend for it to go, and 3) it will prevent the eyeshadows from creasing especially if your skin tends to get oily during the day.

You can find Urban Decay’s Naked Palette at any Sephora, Ulta, or online at UrbanDecay.com. I’m warning you now…Don’t try to wait for any coupons or sales before you buy this palette because it will always retail for $50.00 no matter where or when you buy it. If it helps with the frugal side of your conscious, even the pro-artist discount is not applicable because its just that good and definitely just that popular.

By far, Urban Decay, is top-ranking in their eyeshadow quality and this is an investment I am so excited to have finally made!

My first Bridal Shoot!

On Saturday, I had the honor of doing makeup for a long time friend for her bridal shoot. She was married last Friday (June 31), but the newlyweds decided to do a bridal shoot post-wedding to have a variety of pictures in their wedding day attire.

I must admit that I was VERY nervous being that she is my first professionally photographed model! I learned quite a few things on Saturday.

1.) Arriving early is arriving on time!  Let me tell you all that ATLANTA traffic is no joke especially in the rain.  Her house is about 25 minutes from mine on a nice, clear day.  I made it to her house in 1hr and 15mins due to highway construction and an accident.  This left me with only 30 minutes to apply her makeup before we had to make a mad-dash to the photography studio.  I would have preferred to take my time doing her makeup (at least 45 minutes), so I was a little bummed that I was rushed and couldn’t be as particular as I wanted to be.  Moving forward, I will plan to arrive on set at least 40 minutes earlier than my scheduled arrival time.

2.) The makeup may not come out the exact same way as it did in the trial session. Unfortunately, my friend is allergic to MAC eyeshadows.  Because we switched from MAC products during the trial run to Urban Decay the day of, I was hesitant that she would not change in color because she like the trial application so much.  I learned to be more confident in my capabilities as an artist and make sure I have the blending brush on hand! She loved it just the same.

3.) Eat right before work starts and bring snacks for later.  I will never go without food in my bag again.  #thatisall

4.) Photographers are your friend.  I loved the photographer we worked with!  She double checked my friend’s makeup with her camera and let me know she looked beautiful through the lens!

This shoot was extremely fun to be a part of! I wish I could explain to you all the amount of love and affection that was present on-set! I will be sure to post pictures from the photographer as soon as I receive them! In the meantime, here are a few pics I snapped with my iphone 🙂
